I got my DRAFT settlement document last week. The earliest I heard of anyone getting it was 2 weeks ago, and I know people leaving in several locations,

Draft doesn't mean FINAL!

When I got it, it seemed they paid me for the part of June after the 19th, (last day of work), and all of July. Maybe in the past they paid all this, but I didn't figure they would now. Of course they didn't, got a new draft settlement this week which didn't pay post 19th June and all of July.

Sounds reasonable to me. why would anyone pay you for time you weren't working. Maybe, if they paid for this time in the past, and the computer program was set up this way, and the policy changed recently, (how convenient!), and they discovered it after giving the initial draft settlement, they had to correct it.

Shoddy accounting, but what do you expect here?

In any case, I'm quite satisfied with my settlement as it included some items I wasn't aware of, and when all is said and done, I got about Dhs30,000 more than I expected!

That being said, I had a good run at the HCT, but now is a good time to be moving on.

Have a safe and happy holiday one and all!

Hey Caliph... did you receive the pay for summer leave? That is earned vacation time which you would have coming. I agree that salary should only go through your last day worked.

(and good luck on your next adventure in TEFL... Laughing)

yes, paid for summer leave, plus round trip ticket in addition to one way repatriation ticket. The round trip ticket (3, wife and child) was a surprise to me.

No more TEFL for me, I'm semi retiring and starting a business where I work 4 hours a day, 3 days a week, and hope to make as much as here. Though with 25+ years in the Gulf, I can live without working, if need be. Just waiting for maximum social security to kick in.

I got paid to the last working day, June 19th, plus my accrued leave.

So yes, I got my holiday pay!

I found that my "final" end-of-service figure was less than the "draft" as well. They use to pay the accrued vacation pay until the end of July (i.e. approximately another 4 days) which they don't do now. In addition, as I claimed my annual ticket in January, they deducted money from my final cheque becasue I didn't stay until the end of July to entitle me for the full amount of the ticket. However, they did give me the money for the repatriation ticket. In all, I am leaving with about Dh 5000 less than was on my "draft"
I was told that this was due to a change of policy. I call it nickle and diming.
Never mind. It's a big bag of money anyway.
They also made me sign a statement in which I promised that I was going to leave the country and cancel my visa (and not transfer it to another educational institution, presumably). That was a new one - they never did that before. That's Tayeb and his desire to keep HCTers from flocking to the competition like ADVETI and ECAE.
I quite cheerfully signed it. It is completely unenforceable. If I want to work for another (non-government), academic institution they can't ban me. (Even the HCT's "gentleman's agreement" with ZU and UAEU that none of them poach from each other is quickly falling by the wayside in this competitve environment).
A quick drive to Buraymi or a flight to Doha takes care of the "leaving the country" requirement and then I am free to work for whomever I want.
I feel like adding "nyah nyah nyah" here but I won't cuz I'm too mature.
