I am married to a Thai national and am therefore eligible for a non-immigrant category O visa with multiple entry good for 1 year. Can I get a work permit when I get to Thailand with this type of visa? |

You can get a work permit on a Non-O visa unless it was obtained for retirement purposes. Some schools however aren't aware of this and require their teachers to get a Non-B. |

Thanks for your reply. Do I have to have the job offer before I can get the work permit, or could I arrive with the "O" Visa as a spouse of a Thai citizen and get the work permit without a job? |

You need to have the job or the offer of a job.
The WP is job specific and will state your profession and place of employment so you need to have that job offer first.
Having said all that, the WP itself is quite painless to obtain. |

Thanks for your reply. If the school insists that I get a non-immigrant B visa even though I have the O, my understanding is that I would have to leave Thailand to get the B visa. Is that correct? |

I think you could change an 'O' to a 'B' in BKK, but I wouldn't work for a school that required it. |
