My husband and I just made up our minds about relocating to the Czech Rep this coming summer (finally after debating this for a few years, as you can see from my older posts). Because I have Czech citizenship, he will be able to get permanent residency status through me (he is a US citizen). The question I have, has to do with the fact that he wants to continue his US-based computer programming job long-distance; sort of an international telecommute, except he is one of the co-owners of the small business. Does anyone on this forum know if he may have to be subjected to some kind of a Czech tax if the Czech authorities question his employment status?

I'm not sure if this thread helps you, but it concerns paying taxes on online earnings abroad.

To be honest Pacific, these issues can be very complicated and it would probably be best to seek out a well informed lawyer or accountant to deal with this issue. I think if you check out www.expats.cz or www.prague.tv you could probably find someone to chat with over the phone about it if you are not in the country.

Hi Pacific!

My advice is to arrange for a consultation with either a local Czech accountant or a local accountant where you are living now.
Initial consultations usually don't cost that much.

Chris is right that both Expats.cz and Praguetv.cz are good places to start.

If the company is registered in the US and all accountancy/banking is operated in the US then the only issue might be the fact that your husband will also be a resident of a second country (Czech Republic) and the Czech authorities will prob need to know how he will be financing his stay here. This may mean needing to provide proof of his income and this I'm afraid might be subject to local Czech taxes.

BUT, accountancy is not an exact science so I would recommend going on the expats.cz website and searching out for a reputable accountant.
To be quite frank, just asking this question on any forum will result in many different versions so you will need to invest in a consultation with a professional.

To begin with I would suggest posting on this part of the expats.cz forum:
