did you have to show evidence of your economic solvency to marry your wife in Mexico?
how much did it all cost you?
I knew about the letter asking for permission. I knew about the bloodtests and possibility of chest x-rays.
what am i forgetting about or uniformed about? |

We chose an easier road. It was far easier for us to travel to the States, get married there, get the marriage certificate translated and apostilled, come back to Mexico and register it with a Registro Civil, then with immigration. Torreon's not too far from Texas. It might be a lot easier to shoot up to Texas and get married there. |

Let me see if I remember. The permission letter alone costs $3500 pesos. The blood tests - more for the foreigner than for the Mexican! I didn't have to get x-rays or prove my economic solvency.
You'll also need witnesses - 4 I think.
The best piece of advice I can give you is make sure you go back to immigration after you get married to confirm that you did actually get married or they will fine you $600 pesos. |

I swear to god if the USCIS ever accuses me of this being a marriage of convenience my head will explode. Nothing convenient about it. When we apply for her residency in the US (eventually) that's going to cost a few thousand dollars, too.
Now I have to figure out this whole "translation of birth certificate" thing. |

If you need an English document translated into Spanish for legal purposes, it has to be done and officially stamped by a perito traductor. That is what a Mexican officially certified translator is called. |

The nearest US Consular is the best bet for the translation of your birth certificate. Last I new the cost was 55 US Dollars! |

My wife and I had the church ceremony in Monterrey and the civil ceremony in Laredo, Texas. I had an FM3 at the time and we never did a civil ceremony in Mexico though we continued to live there for about two years. Once we moved to Houston, I negotiated all the paperwork for legalizing my wife. After our final interview, our paperwork was misplaced, and I had to pay an immigration lawyer $2500 to straighten everything out. The lawyer was worth it for us because even with an MA in English I found the paper work daunting. |

Never got round to doing the civil yet, mainly due to the hassle of immigration. As I remember, the cost of the tramit a couple of years ago was just over $2000 in DF so I'm surprised at that figure of $3500!
I also heard that the blood test is no longer necessary.
It's possible to marry in some embassies and then legalize in the Registro Civil, but alas, not in the British Embassy. |
