Hi, I have been teaching in Japan for 6 years and total and next year I am returning home to Australia (Brisbane) for good. I will become a full-time student so that i can change careers.
While i study, I would like to work part-time, about ten hours a week. What is the ESL job market in Brisbane like? I mean, is there a lot of part-time work available? I have a degree but no CELTA or other ESL certificates.
I spoke to a couple of employers of ESL teachers a few years back and they said they would hire someone with no certificates, as long as they had a degree and a couple of years of expereince teaching. But that was a few years ago. Has things changed? Now that Nova has collapsed, is the ESL market saturated with teachers?
How does the pay-rate compare to other jobs? I have been out of the Australian work-force for 7 years so I really have no idea. Is it easy enough to pick-up private students? |
