I'm in Northern Honshu.
Ideally, I would like to live in the Tokyo/Kanto region. |

If I had my preference, I'd LOVE to live in Nishinomiya or Takarazuka again (in Hyogo, pretty close to Osaka). The people there are fantastic, and I have a bunch of foreign and Japanese friends, as well as my old university in that area. Luckily, ECC said I have been placed in "Osaka or surrounding areas", so I am hoping that I won't be too far away from there. But Japan is just pretty great overall, so I'm sure I'll enjoy wherever I'll be placed. |

Okinawa, but my second choice would be right here in western Tokyo, 10 minutes out of Shinjuku- it's a great location. |

If I could live anywhere in Japan, and not have to worry about having a job or the cost of rent, it would be a tossup between Kitami, Hokkaido (where I spent my first year in Japan), or the Shitimachi area of Tokyo. I kinda miss my old neighborhood (where my wife grew up and her parents still live) in Chiba Prefecture, too. |

Really? Will trade.... Just kidding...
I think summer here sucks; its just too hot and the schools I work at have little or no aircon!
Anyways were I to move I'd choose Himeji, Kyoto or Sendai area. Mind you I've only seen the 1st 2 so this kind of a where I would live if I had my choice, not where I would live 'cause I know I like it. |

I'm sure it's hot there, but a 39 degree day in Tokyo where the heat is radiating at you from the concrete on all sides as well as above is a hell which has to be experienced to be believed, as is being crammed into a Yamanote Line carriage with hundreds of sweaty salarymen on the same kind of day- I just can't see Okinawa being that nasty, no matter how hot it gets! |

Tokyo AND Okinawa both sound interesting.
I haven't been to Okinawa, but I have seen photos of the beaches, and looks gorgeous aka Philippines/Thailand transparent water and sandy beaches kinds of places! |

One of the coolest vibes I ever got was from Hiroshima. Great bar and cozy little live music scene. The city, somewhat ironically, is absolutely beautiful. The people and food were quite nice, all while maintaining a Vancouveresque type atmosphere. |

I also remember thinking that if I were going to live in a smaller city then Hiroshima or Himeji would be nice- both very pleasant cities. |

Ideally, I'd spend summers in Hokkaido and the rest of the year in the Tokyo area. |

Kanazawa was a great place to live. Sendai was very nice, too.
However, I can't imagine moving away from Tokyo; There's no city like it in the world. |

What was it about Chiba that you liked? And exactly what part of Chiba were you in? |

It wasn't so much Chiba itself I liked, but rather, the friends I knew. The prefecture lacks a lot of the charm of Kanagawa and the natural beauty of Hokkaido, but it does have some nice, quaint places (Sawara and the Boso Hanto), and where I lived and worked ( Yachiyo/Sakura) I was only 45-60 minutes from the heart of Tokyo, by train. |

I agree with you. I've been away for over a year now, and I really miss it. |
