I am seriously considering moving to Vietnam after my latest stint in Japan ends.

I was wondering if anyone has tired to start their own school there?I imagine the Red tape would be oppressive , but how about start-up costs?

I guess I would just have to settle and work for others for a few years anyway.

Any advice most welcome.

Particuarly interested in those that have experience of both Vietnam and Japan.

Wow, after Japan you will love Vietnam. Talk about an easygoing place.

Look regarding starting a school, sure it could be done, but you will have a lot of headaches. Startup cost. Well you need to rent a building and you will need to rent it on a long term contract which will be expensive and the cost will vary from district to district. But, when you get the building you can do what you like to it, as in you can knock down walls and repaint it...whatever you want.
In all honesty, I would not recommend anybody open a school in Vietnam until they are understand how things work here. And the only way to do that is by living here.
I work closely with several schools management teams and they struggle with the garbage that goes on...and they are Vietnamese!
Saying that I love teaching and living here and I consider Vietnam to be my second home and fast becoming my first home.

The most important issue concerning the opening of a school in Vietnam
is obtaining a license from MPI. This is a long process and requires a detailed feasibility study and many other supporting documents. Good Luck!
