When applying for the visitor visa (prior to applying for an ARC) how have you handled the departure ticket?

Are there particular airlines/services that are flexible about letting you book a ticket for one date and then change it to another?

And, does the ticket have to be back to your country of origin?

When you book your flight, ask for a one year, open ended return ticket. Set a date in your itinerary that will land you the visa you want (60 day) and then change it to one you want on arrival. Another option is to get a refundable ticket and simply get a refund on the return portion later.

To my knowledge, a ticket does not have to be back to your country of origin, but it is probably more affordable to get a return to your country rather than buying a separate ticket going elsewhere.

Although possible-- and some have done it-- it's best not to try the one-way option. Airlines can refuse to let you board as they can be held responsible for flying you back if you get turned back at your destination.

Do a quick http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/job/search.php and you will see this topic has been discussed plenty. There are several routes that you can go through to get the proper visas that you need.

Cheers/Ganbei! Surprised

Good question, we've been trying to find some info on this topic as well. We're thinking of coming over by ferry from Shanghai, it's cheaper than flying (and a bit more of an adventure) plus they refund your unused return ticket at 95% when you turn it in...

Specifically, I was hoping that someone could recommend an airline that has a lax policy for changing your departure date/low fee for changing the date.

I've tried looking online, but most of the reasonably priced fares come with signifigant restrictions.

Maybe I missed it when I searched through recent posts on the topic.

I got a one way ticket and a return itinerary from my travel agent. I was a little nervous on my way over that someone would look it up in their computer and figure out that I hadn't actually bought the ticket, but no one ever did.

Same with me.

I recently flew from Bangkok to Taipei on a one-way ticket and I didn't have to show proof of an onward ticket. Although I had a fake itinerary I got from the travel agent in Bangkok. In fact, I didn't even have to ask for the fake onward itinerary, they simply gave it to me.
