I'm a newbie.
I put my resume on this site.
I got numerous responses, mostly from Korea. I spoke to a lady from an agency and she offered me a job in Gwanju, Gweonggi-do province, 40 mins east of Seoul. I know this is the Japan forum but I can't get onto the Korean one for some reason. I am also writing on here because I originally wanted to go to Japan because I had heard good things about it. i know the money is better in Korea but I am now hearing bad things about the culture. I am also worried that I am going to be slightly isolated in this location. I am also worried that I have been offered this job even though the school didn't need to interview me. I haven't signed the contract yet but I'm thinking about pulling out and looking for somewhere in Osaka or Tokyo instead.
If anyone at all could give me some advice I would be eternally grateful.
Also, if I sign the contract can I still pull out? Is it legally binding?
Regards, Mallard. |

Do you mean Gyeonggi-do? The province that surrounds Seoul is called Gyeonngi-do. Gwanju is a city in the south surrounded by the Jeolanam province. I've been to Gwangju in the south and it was a nice vacation away from Seoul.
I taught in Seoul for a year and a month. I'd be wary of any school that hires a person without an interview. That's advice for everywhere--not just Korea.
Pull out of the contract and keep looking. Have you looked into teaching at public schools? They have conditions which are much, much better than most hagwons (private ESL institutes). |

Questions and comments regarding living and teaching in Korea should occur on the Korean Job Forums. Separate registration is required. |
