hello everyone been almost a year since i last posted here and it was at a time where the company i work for here in japan had told me i would be in one location and then changed it at the last minute and i ended up somewhere else.
well it has happened again (lucky me) and Mobara will be my new destination.
my question is should i take the job or tell them to stuff it. if i tell them no it will mean my leaving of japan which i dont want to do yet but i am interested in further travel anyway. but if i stay will Mobara be the death of me. what is the place like. i know it is of reasonably size for a small place and near the beach. is there any life to the place or is it another small town waiting for everyone to die or leave.
any advice or information would be greatly appreciated. thanks. |

there dosn't seem to be much around at the moment i have looked on places like this and gaijin pot and opportunities seem pretty slim. the chiba BOE is having some kind of clear out making it very hard to find anything full time in and around this area including ibaraki and saitama.
although obviously if you have evidence to the contrary i would be hugely grateful for any help you can provide |

I lived in Mobara for 3 years. It's not exactly an exciting place to live, but I liked living there. I wouldn't leave Japan rather than live there, that's for sure! In Mobara, you are only 40 minutes or so from Chiba city, which has most things you need, and you can be in Tokyo in about an hour and a quarter. |

Mobara is just a 20-25 minute drive to Ichinomiya/Torami/Shidashita/Taito, which is a one of Japan's surfing meccas. They have great eateries down there along the coast.
I haven't lived in Mobara, but my impression upon visiting there a few times is that it's a small somewhat non-descript city. But all the express trains do stop in Mobara (40 min. to Chiba-city and 1 hr. 20 by regular or 60 min by Ltd. express to Tokyo) and it borders upon the beautiful mountain ranges of the Minami-Boso penninsula to the south and is the closest "city" to some pretty good surfable beaches to the east and south.
Try living there for awhile and let us know from an insider's perspective! Thanks. |
