Nan0201,
I am thinking about teaching through goenglish and was wondering if you've had any bad experiences with the company so far.
Guatetaliana,
Do you know what the website is for Quick Learning? |

When I called quick learning here in the DF they told me I need to have my work visa before they could even talk with me. I'm guessing that means an independent FM3.
I've been here over a month and still having a hard time finding anything with a language school. Wall Street will get back with me once they know something.
Interlingua has a test they will be giving on the 14th of this month. Berlitz pays next to nothing and everyone I talk with about doing some private classes are too far from where I live. I live in the south at Villa Olimpica apts and taking a bus all the way to Perisur or Santa Fe would take too much time.
How can I find a language school that's actually hiring????? |

Maybe it's time to start putting ads for private students in newspapers and on line: segundamano, El Universal, and so on. |

Here's QuickLearning's website. Seems partly broken. Like I said, their work schedule is pretty intense. I only know of them in Monterrey, so I don't know what kind of policies their other locations have.
Good luck! |

Yea, I have been spending too much time trying to get things organized here at the apt but I think that will take a year. I'll put some ads in the paper next week and see how that works. I haven't applied for the independent FM3 yet because I'm waiting to pick up the marriage license or whatever it is I pick up, that will make my marriage recognized in Mexico.
What's up with the language schools here?? They take forever to get back with you and when they do they still don't have an answer for you. This is Mexico City! I thought it was supposed to be easy to get a job here?? My friend in china can't believe it takes this long to get a job here. He has one in China, pays no rent plus he's working for two other schools under the table.
He was thinking about coming here in two years but now I think I scared him from ever coming here. I told him it's possible here it just takes a lot of time. |

Welcome to Mexico where people don't, as a general matter "get back with you"
Your best bet is to find a school that needs to hire someone at the exact moment you walk through their door. |

So true. I knew that from living here years ago but I just forgot it until now. That's OK. |

Never understood that one! As I remember, QL pays nomina, so if you are new here, how are you gonna get your FM3 if they won't sponsor it? |

I don't know about QL, but there are a number of schools that I've contacted over the years that wouldn't talk to me if I didn't already have my working papers. My guess is that they weren't that interested in hiring native speakers and would make do with Mexican English teachers instead. |

True. Also there is a phenomenon my husband has been noticing in Monterrey as far as language institutes go. I'm wondering if any of you have been noticing this, and if it's due to recent local immigration laws in the US or if it has always been this way.
Lots of language schools (of the Interlingua/QuickLearning/Harmon Hall variety) are reportedly backing away from helping with FM3s, even if they assisted with them before, because they're getting a heavy flow of young adult Mexican citizens returning from the US (especially Houston and Atlanta) who have lived and gone to school there since, say 2 years of age. My husband is in this category as well, and says that a large number of his co-workers share a similar background. I guess it's a good deal for the schools because they're getting native or nearly native speakers using the same bureaucratic process as any other Mexican teacher who's never even been outside Mexico... |

I am aware that schools that hire non-native-speaker Mexicans to teach English routinely pay them less than native speakers, even if their language skills are quite good. Is your husband being paid as much as non-Mexican native speakers by his school? I know that in Mexico City many schools still prefer native speakers, especially for private and company classes. |
