If you're working in one of the eikawa, I was just wondering on average how many kids / high school classes you have compared to adult classes. I'm figuring the adult figures are going down, but perhaps I'm wrong.
So, how many kids classes on average do you have each day? How many kids on average each day? Same for high school students (how many classes, and how many students?). And same for adults (how many classes, and how many students?).
Just curious! Thanks! |

Unless you count college students as kids, all of my students were adults, average age 55. Range = 20 to 90. |

While at Nova, I taught 2 kids classes (ages 2-12, with 4-8 kids at a time) and 6 adult classes (jr. high and up, with 1-4 people at a time) a day on average. |

I would say that most eikaiwa schools these days have far more kids' classes than adult classes. Personally, from 150 students or so that I teach, about 20 are adults, 5 are high schoolers, about fifteen are junior high and the rest are all elementary school or kindergarten kids. Certainly most of the smaller eikaiwa schools seem to have more kids - not sure about the situation with the big chains. |

Hi guys,
Thanks for your replies - and sorry for the late thank you! I kind of figured more folks would add their two cents. No biggie. I was expecting the answers to be heavily weighted towards elementary / jr. high students so was a bit surprised to hear adult classes in some cases being the norm. I guess location has something to do with it though perhaps, as Saloc suggested, it's mainly a function of school size (larger chains versus smaller chains and independent operators). Thanks again! |

I'm heading over in November to work with one of the big eikawa schools. And if the situation doesn't change, I'll be working at an "adult only" school. I've been told that it is 30% businessmen, 40% businesswomen, 10% housewives, 8% college students and 12% high school students. I've been told that this is subject to change and could very well include some children by the time I get there. But for now it's adult classes only. |
