How's it looking? While waiting at the airport in Hangzhou for a flight south, I was approached by a businessman who basically said he needed teachers for his company right away, and would have hired me on the spot. I couldn't for obvious reasons, but was rather desperate and said, "Please help find someone to teach my staff, all of the other foreign teachers had to leave this summer due to visa restrictions."

This was near Shanghai. Rarely in that area do employers scout for talent at airports or other public places, it is almost always through word of mouth and making sure the applicants are qualified.

I've also heard reports of shortages for famous and reputable companies who have had to cancel summer camps. One summer camp provider said to the parents, "We cannot fulfill the promise of providing native speakers, as there aren't enough. So this service is canceled for the summer, we apologize."

In one case a teacher had to leave due to visas. His students were upset and said, "Please don't leave, we'll help you hide."

Is it true that the visa restrictions are creating a severe teacher shortage?

Steve

I have been offered numerous summer jobs before i left. My side gig needed a teacher to pick up after me and they had a real hard time finding one.

Not a visa issue but many fts just go home or travel in the summer. Plus its just hot as hell and who wants to go out in the furnace...?
