Hi everyone, this is my first post ever... I've been wanting to teach English abroad for two years now, but it seems I have always just had other things going on. Well, I'm finally taking the plunge... I'm leaving the States for Buenos Aires on July 27, taking a Spanish class and then getting my TEFL through Bridge. I've never been to South America (Central, yes) and am very excited, although a bit nervous. I plan to remain in SA to teach, although likely not Argentina; I understand the job market is not great.
Making alot of money is not important (hence my choosing SA) but learning the language and culture is. I'd ideally like to end up in a small coastal city/town where the pace of life is a bit slower, yet there are jobs to be had. Thinking of a couple places in Chile, any ideas?
I dont know ANYONE on the continent. Guess it just makes me feel a little more at ease sharing my thoughts with the world of Dave's esl.....Thanks guys!

Have you found your way to the General Latin America, Chile and Argentina boards yet?
You'll find more people with experience in the area there than here in the Newbie forum.
Relax and enjoy the trip! |

To the OP, I was email by a woman named Dawni who would ike to know if you could email her. She's also looking at going to SA, but hasn't been able to register here on Dave's yet.
Here's her contact info

Come over to the Peru board and say hi to us all there. Small coastal city, slow pace of life, sounds like Trujillo which comes complete with British-Peruvian school and 3 major language institutes... |
