I am noticing that payscales in ads are lower and they are quoting higher rent prices. For instance work 8 hours a day for 42,000 NTD and pay rent that is 5000 to 6000 NTD.

Is this enough to live and save on?

I was under the impression most jobs paid around 60,000 NTD and rent was usually included and sometimes airfare as well.

DO NOT work 8 hrs a day for 42,000!!!!!! i make just under 60,000/m salary and i'm not at the top rung on the ESL pay scale. u do need to remember that in taiwan, during the first 6 months they take 20% in taxes(u get it back later) and then after that its only about 6%. so for the first half of the year, i was only making mid 40K range but now its gone up.
about the apts. u can probably rent a SMALL room/old crappy apt for $5-6K but the 3 expat friends i know that have modern western standard apts, they all pay $8K/month for shared flats in taipei city (in the Daan district near ShiDa univ) pretty easy to find a room in that area by just going to the univ and looking at posting boards. u could prob save some money with what u mentioned, count on spending around 15K-20K/month, but i would find a job for close to 60K so u can save more. We're hiring at my school to PM if u want contact details.

Hi Sandy,

I've gathered that you have decided to stick it out in Taiwan until the MOE jobs come around again. Is this correct?

Hi, enoch83

I am in my third year of Uni and I am looking to come to Taiwan to teach. I aim to fly to Taipei in Jan or Feb. Could you please e-mail me the details of the school and the ''season'' dates for signing teaching contracts?

Hope there are positions for a 34 year old, native English speaker: BA, TEFL, qualified, and 1 year teaching experience (now in Thailand), ''hoping'' is in the ball park of management ''requirement'' at the school you teach?

kind regards, t-asia
