O Flower of Scotland
When will we see
Your like again,
That fought and died for
Your wee bit Hill and Glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
The Hills are bare now
And Autumn leaves lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now
Which those so dearly held
That stood against him
Proud Edward's Army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
Those days are past now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again
That stood against him
Proud Edward's Army
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.
0 Flower of Scotland
When will we see
Your like again,
That fought and died for
Your wee bit Hill and Glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
Anyone been to Scotland, tell me bout it, any Scots where r u???? |

Beautiful.
Knocks the socks off the stale Hanoverian tosh that passes for the English one, doesn't it?
Which puts an Englishman in a bit of a quandary. To be honest, if national anthems decided it, I'd be a ready and willing traitor. 50,000 Welshmen doing that octave interval at Cardiff Arms Park is the most stirring thing you'll hear in any international sport.
Except, perhaps, the recent choral interpretation of Georgia's anthem at the Rugby World Cup the other week. Now that was Art...

Scots came up with logarithms, the second law of thermodynamics and the laws of electrodynamics; they revolutionised steam power and invented bitumen, waterproofing, the telephone, the television and radar. Scots have been pioneers in anatomy, antiseptics and the development of penicillin. One of them, Adam Smith, even came up with the wacky idea of the invisible hand of capitalism. The Scots attribute this impressive roll call to the country's long-standing emphasis on a good education. |

I remember as a lad it was my lovely Grandmother who gave me hope after an acident I had by reminding me I was not dead yet or,
"yer nor deed yet" which when heard nullified my cries...
words to put lead in the back!
Another worthy contribution to the endless list of achievements by Scots would have to be Trainspotting and Iron Bru, no doubt on a par with Thermodynamics I think you'll agree? |

Irn Bru is the best drink in the world
And do u know;
Scotland is the only country in the world where Coca Cola is not the leading soft drink, guess what Irn Bru is the leader.
And it is brewed in Russia

Sorry, greg, thats only half true.
There are two countries in the world where coca cola is not the umber one soft drink. The other country is Malta, whose drink is Kinnie. |

There was a joke while I was in Scotland...how can you tell a Scotsman? He has a chip on both shoulders. It never went down well in Scottish pubs. |

Add to the list
Scots also established the Bank of England and the US Navy.
I remember years ago I read a poem which was all about Scots' achievements. It was one of these postcards sold in tartan/shortbread tourist shops. Does anyone know what I'm talking about |

My favourite quote on the Scottish character is from that marvellous Englishman, Pelham Grenville Wodehouse :
"It is not difficult to spot the difference between a ray of sunshine and a Scotsman with a grievance."
Like many others I have fled my native land and make a precarious living as a teacher of Standard Interterran. Long ago I gave up any dreams of returning to Scotia.
When I go back I feel like a stranger - especially in Edinburgh which now seems to have been colonised by the English.

Didn't the Scots also invent the moth-proof wallet? |

Scot - you little ray of sunshine you , come to the South of England. it's swarming with Scots colonisers/ex-pats.
In my small village there's even an informal pipers club, and a very nice piper gave me some reeds for my Bombarde the other day. |

Our Irish neighbours have long been the butt of Anglo-Saxon "humour" as well. Here's my favourite:
Why are Irish jokes so stupid? So the English can understand them.

Only semi-serious question but do Scots even have conversations which don't involve mention of the English somewhere?
Besides, anyone who insults the English national anthem is a fool. |
