Hello there,

Could anyone let me know how is life for a secondary boys PE teacher in Dubai? What happens when it gets too hot outside? Surely everyone can't go inside? What are the facilities and equipment generally like? What's extra curricular like? Is there many competitions / fixtures between schools? Are the local sporting facilities used? Does a PE teacher normally have to teach other subjects? Is much importance given to PE and sport within schools?

Cheers

The answer to all your questions: It depends. It really does vary from school to school. I worked for a school that usually scheduled indoor sports for the hotter months (May, June, September...maybe April). Our equipment was ok, but things like the track and field were very poorly maintained. My school also didn't place much value on sports or the skills of PE teachers. There are fixtures between schools. Depending on your dept, setting up matches could very well become your job. Our PE teachers did not teach other subjects. They coached and invigilated regular exams. As for giving the subject importance, I would say generally "no". You could end up, however, in a fantastic school. What curriculum do you teach currently?

Hi there, cheers for the info so far.

I'm currently teaching in England so the English Curriculum. What sports are mainly taught? Competed in over there? Do they have big city wide finals for football, athletics etc? Or do schools just play their local schools or British schools V British etc?
