considering going to the polish seaside for a few days, maybe September.
anyone have any input?
cost?
best way to go there and back?
what's the scene there?
expensive?
hotel costs?
I wanted to fly somewhere, different country, but it's just too expensive, unless someone has some cheap alternatives. I gotta see some beach this year. |

Ah, September by the Polish sea. As the last wafts of stale chip fat drift over the boarded up junk shops you wander down the litter strewn paths to the windswept, golden sands.
I wasn't very impressed with the Polish beach scene. Miedzydroje was upmarket and fairly pleasant (but ridiculously priced), the dunes near Leba were impressive but the town was depressing. The sea at Sopot was off limits the year I was there because of a toxic algy floating around the bay. The Hel peninsula was very nice but how much will be open in September is a question I can't answer.
If I was going to the coast in September I would consider Kolobrzeg. It's big enough to be still open and happening but with good beaches. Easy to get to by train, it'll be out of season so the ridiculous summer hotel prices will be lower and a pleasant place to stroll around. |

The prices really are getting quite insane. I need to stay at the Neptun Hotel in Leba. A double room for one night in July (rooms only available with breakfast and dinner) is PLN 850. And it has to be paid for in advance.
Same room in low season is PLN 320. Lucky I'm not paying for it really. |

my main concern is weather. i'm afraid of going there the 1st/2nd week of September and having it be cold and/or rainy. |

Well you can't guarantee anything but September is generally warm and dry although the nights will be a bit chilly. At the moment, the summer is wet and windy where I am (a long way from the coast) - certainly not many beach days. Maybe September will make up for it but if you want guarantees try Croatia. |

I second the idea about Croatia. I'm spending September there myself |

ive been to sopot, jurata, jastarnia, jastrzebia gora, ustka, leba, and kolobrzeg. let me tell you, the polish seaside in these tourist cities lost its charm long ago, now they are all mirror clones of each other...garish advertising, the most crowded beaches in the world, everyone hawking shit, shitty expensive food, tons of litter. jurata was my favorite, but now its an enclave for the super rich trying to outdo each other.
if you kiteboard or windsurf go to chalupy with a tent.
the weather is unpredictable. dont count on it. its gets very very cold sometimes. its balls expensive. if youre going by yourself, dont.
the scene is what you and your friends make of it. everyone else sucks. |

I lived in Gdansk for a year, have been to many of the these beaches, and have to agree with maniak.
You can never find a beach experience without some flaw in Poland. Whenever I was lucky enough to find a clean, uncrowded beach it was miserably cold and the prices were still way too high, even in the low season.
If you want nice beaches come to Thailand.
I did. |

There's a boat to Bornholm once a week. That's got to be a definite plus. Sort of like the schools in Katowice who sell the place on how good its train connections are... |

looks like that's where I'm headed. I've spoken to a few people who have done the same, that is, going to swinoujscie in september, and heard nothing but good things. I'll be the judge of that, but I have confidence that as long as the weather holds up, I'll have a good time.
Sun, beer, and no work is guaranteed to be atleast a decent time . |

10 nights in Poland in that hotel=8,500 Zl, which is 2 thousand pounds.
I'm going to Bali soon for 2 weeks for one third of that.
No brainer.
Sharter aka Biff......has waxed lyrical about the lack of value for money in Poland for ages. I really don't know how anyone can live there. |

Where do you guys find such expensive hotels? There are a lot of far less costly places all over the place. 850 zl a night? Give me a break! |
