And I need a good elementary age lesson plan. All six grades of them.

Doesn't just have to be language stuff. Culture is important too. Ideally it should teach teh true spirit of Christmas (read: buying prezzies). Suggestions?

When I was in Taiwan last year I had my class make a Christmas tree with cardboard and decorations to put on it. I taught them Christmas carols. I find Ruldolph, Frosty and Jingle Bells the best for that age group. I also read them some Christmas stories, such as "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and Dr Seuss' "The Grinch who Stole Christmas."

I also like reading storybooks to the kiddies at this time of year. Simple ones with lots of repetition are best, and they especially like pop up books or flap books where many of the kids will get a chance to open a flap or manipulate the pop up.

Dear biffinbridge,
Hmm, working Christmas Day? Perhaps not. If you check your calendar, you'll see that Dec. 25th falls on a Thursday this year. So, unless you'll have one of those jobs that requires you to put in weekend time, you should be off for the holiday. Have a Happy Christmas - and, Allah be thanked, you'll even have a day to recuperate afterwards.
Regards,
John

Here in Japan the 23rd and 24th are holidays but alas, I have to take leave to have the blessed 25th off. Cabin near Fuji... bliss...

Dear dmb,
I never knew that - thanks for the info. Well, at least you can party hearty on Christmas night and then have a whole weekend to recover.
Regards,
John

dmb,
Here in Jordan, the weekend holiday used to be Thursday/Friday....then it was changed to Friday/Saturday. The reason is because taking Thursday off meant that the country lost a day of doing business with the rest of the world, so taking off on Saturday instead made better sense economically.

About 5% of people in Jordan are Christians, and Christmas day is an official holiday. I suspect this may also be true in Lebanon (which has a much higher percentage of Christians), but I do not know about any other countries.

A.

Turkey works on Christmas Day but foreign teachers (who are "Christian") are given the day off!!! Bugger Boxing Day!
Please - no jokes about turkeys!

(did you notice the lack of a *beep* for bugger!?)

Well, I don't have to worry about getting christmas off first we have a Friday/Saturday weekend, but i work on Fridays... and second we don't celebrate it, we get a week of for Chanuka, I wouldn't mind teaching about christmas, although some parents might give me a hard time, and my kids would love to celebrate it too. Very Happy

I used this site for Halloween and it was great for young learners. I'm going to use it again for Christmas activities.
