I have just received a letter of interest after applying to la Universidad Tangamanga. Any and all information is useful as I need to make a quick decision.
This is what they say about the position:
"--40 hours a week
--Salary starts at 13,000 Pesos per month plus benefits such as medical insurance.
--The contract is for a least a year, with the chance of renewal.
--The classes are small, of 10 students or less
The University is located in a small town called "Axtla" in the Mexican State of San Luis Potosi."
They have advertised looking for English or French teachers.
Thanks to all of you who have any leads on this school! |

Tangamanga sounds more like the name of a school in Africa or the South Pacific, but I just checked on the web, and it does seem to be a real university in Mexico.
The contract they're offering you sounds pretty good, as long as you don't actually teach 40 hours a week. I would ask how many contact hours a week the contract requires. The fact that classes are so small would make this offer attractive to me, that's for sure! |

Thanks for your review!
I have looked over the website and the University appears to check out. I guess it just feels strange because I am not overwhelmingly qualified and so my tendency is to wonder why they would choose to hire me if the position is all it promises to be.
I am supposed to talk to someone there today and will see how it goes. I will certainly ask about the contact hours.
Thanks again. |

From the degrees they offer, it seems to be half-way between a business college and a university; there are a lot of those in Mexico.
I see from their website that they offer a degree in Foreign Language Teaching. Perhaps you are being recruited to teach aspiring Mexican English teachers.
I don't see anything as such to suggest it wouldn't be a good position; it will probably depend essentially on how honestly they treat you. |

Universidad Tangamanga is fairly new here. I haven't really heard that much about it, except that it's a fairly inexpensive private option. You might want to check out exactly where the campus is as I believe there are two. One is out in the sticks, in Axtla (quite a way out) and one is on the outskirts of the city - you will need a car. The money is about average for a full time uni position here though there are places that pay more.
There are three parks in the centre of SLP. They are imaginatively called Park Tangamanga 1, 2 and 3. A lot of stuff is named Tangamanga here. |

Yeah, all those meats. I use such a pepperoni on the pizza I make. Pepperoni University maybe? |

I still don't know after living here for 3 years... but you can actually take your car into Tangamanga Park and drive round it. I always thought that that was kind of missing the point of a park but it is huge.
The ham is good! There's also salami and chorizo. And don't forget to visit Plaza Tangamanga. |

Here's the answer to my own question, courtesy of an anonymous donor (of information):
http://www.e-local.gob.mx/work/templates/enciclo/sanluispotosi/municipios/24028a.htm
Translation of above: The area where the city of San Luis Potos is located was inhabited in ancient times (the 12th century A.D.) by groups of primitive peoples who, owing to the destruction of Tula, had scattered in different directions. This area was called "The Tangamanga", a word attributed the the guachichil language. Their customs were described by Gonzalo de las Casa in 1571 in his work entitled, "War of the Chichimecas".

Hey,
How's it going? Let me know how your job interview went with University Tangamanga. Are you currently living in S.L.P? If you are interested I have more information on Universidad Tangamanga.
Good luck!
