I need to buy a futon in Tokyo, cheap and quick style.
The internets are saying the cheapest are from 30 to 100 bucks a pop.
However, all the fancy schmancy department stores I've found have been flogging 'em from $100 to unspeakable amounts at the top end.
So my question is; where specifically do poor japanese people buy their futons?
Exact locations would be greatly appreciated, and condescending redirections to other posts will be reluctantly accepted. |

Where exactly in Tokyo are you?
Most (many) areas usually have a local futon shop.
If you're in Shinjuku, I can tell you there is a cheap/local futon shop on Junisou Dori (Nishi Shinjuku 4 chome) opposite Chuo Koen.
As with anything, you get what you pay for. |

Agreed. We got a futon mattress and bottom futon at a Seiyu department store for around 7000 total, but the mattress well and truly needed replacing after about 18 months- it was about 1 cm thick by then.
What part of the futon are you after, by the way- mattress (hontai), base futon (shikibuton) or top futon (kakebuton)?
Have you tried Muji yet? |

I've gotten a lot of inexpensive household items at a Kmart-like department store called "Olympic" near the Minowa subway station (Hibiya Line) in the Minami-Senju area. Walk west up Meiji Dori and when you get to the Papasu drug store on your right, cross the street (left) and go down the small street about a block. The first floor is a supermarket (as many department stores are) but upstairs is the other stuff.
There is also a small Ito Yokado nearby. At that Papasu, make a right instead and walk by it and then under the train overpass; it'll be on your left. I'm not very familiar with that Ito Yokado, but out in the 'burbs they have several floors (the first floor of course being a supermarket).
And then there's always Don Quijote:
