As of July 31, 2008, visas will not be issued to anybody and you have to deal with an authorized agent in Canada. There are two of them in Ottawa, one in Toronto and Calgary and maybe more coming who knows. |

Wondering what is the rationale behind this move? Is it meant to speed up the process? ... or...seems to me...just another layer of red tape to contend with... or...perhaps a dealing with professional that is savy with the system could take alot of the pressure off jumping through all the hoops....for a fee!
Sounds like a another 'niche' has been created |

I am presently going through the visa process in Canada (it took me 9-10 weeks to gather all the required paperwork) and have sent all the stuff to the Saudi Cultural Bureau in Ottawa, who will then sent on the request to the Saudi Embassy in Ottawa, with my passport, in which the stamp should be placed.
I have not been informed about this new rule on the horizon.

At first, the KSA consulate in the Gulf country where I lived told me to go home and get a visa agency to process my work visa. I went to an agent and they weren't helpful. SO I went back to the consulate and just applied for the visa myself.
So, they may SAY that you need to go through an agent but, in fact, if you be persistent and polite, you might be able to do it yourself. |

I have just started my process here in Ottawa and it seems it will take time. The consular section of the embassy told me that visas will be issued through agents. I dont know if it applies to EFLers or other employment fields. |

Yes this is true...it will take alot of time.
Since you have started the process of obtaining a saudi work visa and I am assuming you are an ESL teacher because you have posted on Dave's... it seems to me that you would know for sure, if you need an agent or not...forgive me, but the wording of your post is not very clear.

The consular section of the Saudi Embassy??? told you that visas will be issued through agents and you never asked if it applies to EFLers???? Are you not and ESL teacher? Even if you weren't, you would still need to know if you need an agent or not... I just don't follow the logic in your comment. Your writing is very confusing. |

Maybe I started my process before July 31. That's why i did not need an agent to do my application. As a teacher, it should be easily inferred. |
