Hello all,
I have never been to Taiwan but I am thinking of going there to teach.
I have been talking to Marks English Group in Dajia. Can anyone give any information on the city or the school? I have searched the forums and the internet but have not found much.
Also, My working schedule is as follows:
Mon Tu Th Fri:
830-1150
Lunch
150-350
then they want you to work 2.5hrs at their cram school
Wed:
830-1150
Lunch
150-540
The pay is 70,000NT
Furnished place to live
working ARC and
medical insurance.
Is this a fair contract from what you know?
Thank you all for your time

Do some reading to see what most people think about salaried positions.
Then read some more to see what people think about "provided accommodations".
Then try to find a place that will offer you straight hours, and not a two hour lunch break (where you will end up spending 2 hours working for free). |

Hi Skijaybo97,
Don't know anything about Marks or Dajia.
$70,000NT is okay, the paid accommodation puts it on the high end.
40 hours a week is typical, what matters is the contact hours. 20 contact HOURS or 25 classes might be average.
Look for the "other duties" clause. Clubs, meetings, other things you have to do but don't get paid for.
Provided accommodations can often be small, shared and bleak. But they are usually very near the school.
Ask for the e-mail address of a teacher who taught there last year.
Good Luck,

Dear Skijaybo97,
You would need to have 3 qualities to survive in that environment:
1. An extremely outgoing personality (Extrovert)
2. A Kick-butt Immune system
3. Vocal cords made of steel
Keep this in mind. If any of it does not make sense, please feel free to ask more questions.
Best wishes.
