Hi!
I'm gonna be flying in to Mexico at the end of August to work in Guadalajara.
I'm busy looking into flights and I'm considering flying into Mexico City then taking a bus/train to Guadalajara.
Is this possible, and if so does anyone have any idea how much it'll cost?
We will be super jet lagged from a long trip over the Atlantic so I'm also wondering if it'll be a huge mission to get from the airport to the bus/train station in our sleepy haze.
Thanks guys! |

A bus to Guadalajara can be 6 or 8 hours, depending on the route, leaving Mexico City North or West station.
I looked up a route at this site:
http://www.etn.com.mx/
Price was 605 pesos leaving the north station, which is the 8 hour route I believe. You'd want to get a taxi to the bus station.
There are some buses that leave directly from the airport to various destinations. Not sure if GDL is one of them, but it's worth checking into when you land. I would expect the price to be higher though.
Of course, you could also simply fly to GDL.
http://www.aviacsa.com/
is one airline that is relatively cheap. You can likely find a one-way ticket to GDL in the 700-1000 peso range. Flight time is about 50 minutes. |

Thanks for the super fast response, Guy!
The flights are super cheap indeed. I had a quick look at http://www.aviacsa.com/ and a one way trip is around $500pesos.
That's cheaper than the bus.. and SO much simpler.
You may have just saved me a very painful mission, thank you! |

Anytime!
One note though...there is probably tax on top of that airline ticket. Still a good deal though. |

Where are you going to be working in Guadalajara? Are they hiring anyone else? |

I often took the ETN bus to and from Mexico City and it was always totally full. However, I took the Primera Plus that leaves GDL at 1:00 am or so, and it was virtually empty. I had two seats to myself to spread out, and I could have taken up more room if I'd wanted. The driver said that bus is never busy. It's a bit cheaper than ETN, and two full Primera Plus would give you more space than one ETN seat. |
