Hi Everyone,

Just love the plethora of info and advice in this forum. I am planning to come teach in Dubai but want to start in the new year (January). When does the school year actually start? If it is like Europe, the new school year starts in early September and getting a job after that can be difficult.

Would I find it difficult to get an English teaching position if I were only able to start work in January 2009? Looking forward to advice.

The school year typically starts in early part of September, as well. There is much confusion these days as Ramadan starts around the same time this year. The ministry of education was talking of postponing the start of the year until after Ramdan (and consequently Eid...so mid-October, perhaps), though I'm not sure that this will happen. I recently visited the website for Dubai English Speaking School who said they will start school on Sept 7: 7 days into the holy month.

January might provide some job opportunities, but I would not count on that happening. January is when most schools start heavily recruiting for the following August/September.
