so we tied the knot, pictures are only on myspace right now and the photographer lost all his in a car accident, hd currently in guadalajara with the hopes of recovering our wedding photos...

got offered a job (and started) the day after we returned from the honeymoon and now we start with (even more) paperwork...

as we speak, our marriage is being registered with the national registry of foreigners... after that is all taken care of, I can adjust my status in the country.

are there any problems getting a work visa if youre married to a mexican? any additional complications?

what is the best path to take?

Congrats on getting married!

Sorry about your wedding pics, I hope they can be recovered.

As for the FM-3, I am not sure. I do know that you can get a dependent status FM-3. As for a work option, I think you would need to change your status after a job offer. Maybe you could get a "mythical" independent visa.

Have you been able to find any work?

Good luck!

From what I've seen in my own experience, being married doesn't influence the work visa at all. It only enters in if you're getting a family dependent visa where you're supported by your spouse & not getting permission to work. If you're applying for permission to work, what counts are your credentials (and your job offer, if not going independiente). But who knows; being married to a Mexican may have an intangible influence.

Congrats!

As for changing your visa. If you have a job, stick with the FM3. It's $1000 cheaper and it doesn't depend on your wife signing the paperwork every year (it doesn't contain your marriage details). If you're dependent on your wife and you need a visa then you'll have to get an FM2 I think. Whichever you have you can start applying for the nationality after 2 years of marriage.

I've actually found it opens up a few more possibilities as people often wrongly assume that as you're married to a Mexican, they can hire you in the same way they would hire a Mexican citizen.

Congratulations!

This is another one of those immigration questions that you can answer best by going down to the office. Things are different in every office. In Saltillo, immigration swears they've never heard of an independent visa. In Saltillo, relaciones extranjeros swears you have to have an FM2 five years before getting residency.

I recently got a strange kind of hybrid FM3 in Monterrey that says I can work anywhere I want as long as I tell them. They did not put the words profesor or maestro de ingles anywhere on the thing, though it's on the pages stamped by the Guadalajara immigration office.

Really, everything with the Mexican government is a matter of jumping through hoops and only your local office can tell you how many hoops there are.

What's "mythical" about it? I have my recently-acquired one nestled safely in my "important papers" file. Confused

Me too, just need to pick it up. Not mythical in SLP!

The only myth is that there is such a thing as an "FM3 Independiente". Immigracin would not recognize it as such. It is merely a normal FM3 or 2 which has in the page where you are authorized to work, the fact that you will work "en forma independiente".

I just got mine back and nowhere in the actual booklet (of my FM2) does it say anything about being independiente but it does say this on the accompanying letter. Did migracion arse it up?

Keeping in mind that every Migracin office seems to be a little kingdom unto itself when it comes to how it does things, on page 8 of my recently-issued FM3, it says, "Prestar servicios como maestra del idioma ingls de manera independiente ...." [my underlining].
