Hi everyone, this is my first post ever... I've been wanting to teach English abroad for two years now, but have always had other things going on. Well, I'm finally taking the plunge... I leave the States for Buenos Aires on July 27, taking a Spanish class and then getting my TEFL through Bridge. I've never been to South America (Central, yes) and am very excited, although a bit nervous. I plan to remain in SA to teach, although likely not Argentina; I understand the job market is not great and the big city will get old for me.
Making alot of money is not important (hence my choosing SA) but learning the language and culture is. I'd ideally like to end up in a small coastal city/town where the pace of life is a bit slower, yet there are jobs to be had. Thinking of a couple places in Chile, any ideas?
I dont know ANYONE on the continent. Guess it just makes me feel a little more at ease sharing my thoughts (and hopefully making some contacts) with the world of Dave's esl.....Thanks guys! (posted this on newbie as well) |

Plenty of work in Vina del Mar and Valparaiso-you can live, break even and possibly save a peso or two here (I don't teach English anymore and never have done in Valparaiso but a few friends do and I know what they make). : Take a look at some of the blogs on http://www.bloggersinchile.blogspot.com to get a bit more info. |

Relax, the best advice you can get is to have a nest egg, always keep enough for a flight home and just go with the flow. My wife and I have that there are plenty of jobs in SA if you look and network. |
