Hello all....I am relaxing at home on a chilly Melbourne afternoon watching the greatest show on earth (outside of Australian Rules footy), The Olympic Games. The opening ceremony was sensational and they continue to get better every four years they are held.
Quick question-What is the coverage like over in Indonesia this time round? During 2004 it was almost non existent. I wondered then if the TV rights were too expensive for Indo TV channels to take up or if overall the country just isn't sports minded enough to care. In any case as I saw the Indo national team walk out it was kind of sad to see they are probably the smallest team per head of population representing their country. Not much bigger than a cricket team. Any thoughts? |

I've been watching it on the Singapore/Malaysian Channels (I'm in Batam)
Seems to be very little coverage on Indon TV.
A shame really. |

Very disappointing... Saw a half hour before the local Indo station lost the feed.. Nothing on my rather expensive Indovision... a bit pissed off to say the least.... But the beers last night on Jaksa and beyond helped cloud the whole thing....as they usually do... |

Some obscure, out of nowhere, Indonesian pay tv company has bought the rights. There's no coverage on Indonesian free-to-air, Indonvision or Cablevision. Very disappointing.
In 2004, Indonesia were the only country in the world to have athletes competing at the olympics, yet no television coverage of the games. Seems they've lived up to expectations again. |

That obscure pay tv network wouldn't happen to be Astro would it? They seem to get things that the main players can't like the English soccer rights last year and also NHL hockey. Only problem is not many have it and their picture is often lousy. |

Even more obscure I'm afraid. It's called Citra TV. There were a few advertisments in the Indonesian newspapers recently. But they only provided a phone number. No more details. An internet search turns up little else.
Anyone else have any luck? |

Classic approach to business. It reminds me of the '100 Years of National Awakening' - stick up a few posters and make a half-assed website and expect the whole world to come knocking on the door. |

Yes, a lot of the Indovision channels (Discovery, NGC, NewsAsia, BBC etc) have loads of documentary programs on the building of the venues, China's failure to honour human rights promises, pollution controls in Beijing and the like, but no actual games coverage. It's like watching one of those 'The Making of ....' programmes without ever getting to see the film.
At the other end of the scale, ex-colleagues in China tell me they can't find anything on TV that isn't the Olympics... |
