Howdy.
I'm currently on a one-year teaching contract in Indonesia. At the end of my contract I'd like to try teaching in Latin America. I enjoy nature: the beach, mountains, wildlife, if it's outdoors I like it. Smile

Where would you recommend I go to? I visited Costa Rica back in 1995 and quite liked it.
Is there any country or area you'd recommend to me?

Hi there, wish I was in Indonesia right now.

Although I no longer would like to be there, for a one or two year stint Quetzaltenango, Guatemala is quite nice. It's in the mountains, there are volcanos to climb, it's full of color and most importantly you can easily find a low-paying job that will keep you housed and fed.

If you need beaches it's a couple of hours in the bus to some fairly uninspiring black sand ones, but the water is fairly clean. As for wildlife I don't think there is a great deal but it is fairly unpolluted, as long as you don't stand in the bus stops (choking black smoke).

Don't try to find a job before you go, the only places that that advertise overseas for Guatemala seem to be looking for "missionary" types, ie work for next to no pay but "learn Spanish and help the indigenous people." This is a suckers trick, just arrive, dress decently and you should find at least part-time work in a week or two.
