Mexico has just won its first medal in the 2008 Games - a bronze in women's synchronized diving. Here's a link to the story:

Still waiting for the addition of Maple Tree Tapping and Apologizing Profusely to be added as official sports before we can up the medal count.

I think the UK would run Canada close for that Apologising Profusely Gold Medal Wink

Is anyone else slightly annoyed by the amount of time Televisa dedicates to their little comedy sketches as opposed to the sporting action? Their commentators are good and insightful, so why they feel they have to have those ditty mock Chinese comics I don't know.

I haven't been able to watch these Olympics at all (I guess none of you watching actually work!)...but I do recall from 2004 that Mexican TV - Televisa and TV Azteca anyway - would routinely mock everything to do with the Olympics, especially with handpuppets, in a lighthearted wat of course.

not a fan of tvazteca... they sound like amateurs... televisa sounds a bit better but they spend too much time selling crap.

the people for TVC do a pretty solid job but its obvious their budget isnt even close to that of the other two networks, but I prefer to get my coverage there.

California has more medals than Canada and Mexico combined... I'd bet on it.

We did see Mexico beat Britain in the female judo today. It didn't win them a medal but it was hugely entertaining and great for Mr L's national pride (not so good for mine though). I did try and tell him Mexico only won because their competitor was a 20 stone beast (wouldn't like to meet her up a dark alley, as we say in blighty) but it didn't take anything away from his joy.

Mexico are currently joint 43rd with 10 other countries. Think team GB was 11th when we last checked, with 7 medals.

Ya!!! Canada clocked 3 medals today; one of each, thank you very much! Now back to cheering for Mexico to see if we can even the score in our house!

Saw in the paper yesterday that Mexico might try to get the 2020 Summer Games.

The UK government wants 41 medals. As of Friday when we had about 9, I thought that was impossible. One weekend later we have 27 - looks like we're on target! Very Happy
