I have been working eight months for a school here. I have seen the contract but the owner still hasn't signed it. I have gone through the channels (different levels of management), but the owner keeps putting it off. Does anyone know if there is a legal requirement for the owner to sign the contract? Alternatively, does anyone have any other advice about how to remedy this situation. Thanks.

not sure but at least you know you can walk at any point. the power is in your hands as long as there is no binding contract regardless of how useless (and illegal) these contracts really are.

I have thought about that and that would leave the school up the creek............ However, I'm more worried about when my supposed contract ends i.e. bonus, fiscal e.t.c.

To obtain the authorisation from the manpower ministry and immigration for a C visa (and thereafter a KITAS) the school has to send the contract, signed by all parties, up front. If you have a KITAS then the boss man HAS signed a contract - though it may look a little different from the one you are waiting to see...

If you haven't got a KITAS and have worked illegally for 8 months then it shows what a crap employer the school is and I'd get the heck out.

Thanks for the info. I contacted the agent who dealt with my KITAS and he said you didn't need the contract beforehand. Whatever the case, I have a KITAS but no contract. I have pointed out to the powers that be, that technically, I could leave anytime. That didn't help either. Any other ideas?

You are under the illusion that you can leave at any time. How, then, do you propose to a) leave the country or b) take up a new job?

They have you by the short and curlies.

Agreed. However, a) As I said in an earlier post, I want to finish my year, I just want my contract to avoid any potential problems. Then again I am sure there are ways if you really want to leave b) If this is how you get treated, I am not sure I want another job here.

But I concede it isn't nice to be had by the short and curlies.
