Hi there

Does anyone out there have any positive or negative experiences with this international school. I'm thinking of applying for a position in their Shanghai branch.

Cheers

No direct experience myself but I know this school. R-LS is a pretty good program. They have extremely high requirements for job applicants and the work will likely be hard, but you should be able to have a good experience there.

I'm assuming you know something about international school environments in general. Is this true?

And I love the Shanghai area- IMHO it's THE place to live in China.

Thanks for your reply MT

To answer your question - eh, No.

I'm completely new to this environment. My wife and I recently decided to move to China for a year or two with the view of staying on and building a new life there. Teaching seems a good way in.

We are currently doing our research and talking to our respective networks which includes several Chinese people and their western spouses. Timing wise we haven't decided yet when to come although I could travel over myself quite soon to get bedded in.

Could you point me to any relevant links about the international school environments?

Many thanks

Mike

The AMERICAN SCHOOL OF GUANGZHOU is NOT run by locals or overseas-Chinese - it's wholly in the hands of Americans.
They pay competitive salaries!
And, that would be a good place for networking with a view of future economic activities beyond teaching!

I nearly took a job at Raffles, but turned it down because:
a) the money was shite
B) it's miles from anywhere
c) the singaporean bloke who interviewed me seemed totally disorganised and a bit dodgy too
d) I didn't like the coffee they served me
e) ok forget that last one

Thanks for the info y'all.

For the record, I would be applying for a teaching position in business administration and the advertised salary is approx. $2k paid locally. I don't think this includes accomodation (although I could stay for free at a friend's father empty flat maybe).

What they expect in terms of input I'm not sure, although what I've heard so far seems vague and could correlate with some of the comments in this thread.

Any more feedback is welcome.

Mike
