Hi, I'm working as an ESL teacher in Toronto. Try as a might, I have yet to get out of this racket!
I'm looking for extra work and I'm wondering if one can teach online? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction?

cheers! HG

http://www.lancelotschool.com

LANCELOT School is a training center for language teachers in the use of virtual classroom technology. LANCELOT is an acronym and stands for LANguage learning with CErtified Live Online Teachers. (LANCELOT was an EU funded project resulting in 9 university credit hours for the trainees.)

This is probably the best place to start so that you have the competence in a virtual classroom.

That sounds like a good place to start. Lots of places just throw you in, with no material. You have to come up with stuff yourself.

There's lots of adverts on eslemployment.com and if you're American, you might try tutor.com

Also, see your PM for mroe links.

Have you tried doing a search on this site? That question gets raised about half a dozen times a year.

Bottom line:
1. You will need equipment. Be prepared to fork out money.
2. Your students may need equipment. Depends on what you want to do. Either way, the software and equipment (including Mac vs. PC technology) must be compatible.
3. Obviously, you could teach anyone anywhere, but you'll have to deal with time zone differences, language barriers (for contracts and terms of payment), and half a million other things. Have you made a list?
