I will also be dealing with this school. Hope to be teaching this August - December there.
I found this website helpful:
http://livinginsahuayo.wordpress.com/
If you read through some of them, they offer good tips of living there |

In relating how the area is, I got this very handy e-mail from someone from Sahuayo. Hope it helps...

Hi Yessi how are you?, thank you for your letter. [...]
Sahuayo is a small city nothing compared to Mexico City or Guadalajara, it has 150,000 people and in 5 minutes form every point you can be out of the city in green areas and fields, it is 20 minutes from the lake of Chapala, the biggest and largest lake in Mexico.
The restaurants are typical food, sea food, tacos, carnitas, enchiladas, tortas, meat, pork meat, Mc'Donalds...
There are many bread stores, white bread (bolillo or virote) and sweet bread.
There is the principal and typical mexican market and it has also two big supermarkets, Soriana and Aurrera.
To visit Guadalajara in one weekend is very easy because it is 1 hour and a half by car or 2 and a half hours by bus. To visit Mexico City you need a whole life and one weekend is not enough because it is 4 and a half hours by car and 6 hours by bus and is between the first and third biggest cities in the world...
The music is typical (bandas, rancheras) and also modern music in english and spanish. Sometimes there are live music shows...
For art it is better to go to Mexico City, Guadalajara or Morelia...
For dancing of course there are places but not many...
Sahuayo is safe to walk by night but like in every places in the world it is good to take precautions but do not worry about that, in general it is safe...
There is a beautiful place 1 hour from Sahuayo called Mazamitla in the state of Jalisco, it is higher than Sahuayo, is in the forest and is a very good place to go for the weekend.
The main fest or celebration in Sahuayo is from july 25 to august 4, celebrating The Patrn Santiago, Apostol Santiago from Compostela and the Tlahualiles, Sahuayo is full, music all over the town, many people come from U.S., is people that live and work in the U.S. but his family is from Sahuayo so they come for the party and visit the family...[...]

Well I just thought I'd post that I've been here in Sahuayo teaching for about a month and I LOVE it. This city is amazing and everyone is so nice. I love my working conditions and honestly I couldn't ask for anything else. |

Good for you! I spent some of last week, and the weekend, just down the road in Chavinda, where we have a house. I didn't want to come back after enjoying the tranquility, lack of routine, gallons of mezcal, etc! |
