I'm planning on being in Tokyo in about 8 weeks or so. I was wondering if anyone on the board likes to indulge in more independent media (art, film, music, etc...). I'm from the states, but I'm the kind of guy who doesn't own a Television, has never wanted to watch American Idol, hates Hollywood, doesn't listen to Top 40 radio, has never read the Da Vinci Code, absolutely cannot STAND American football, doesn't shop at The GAP, has never owed an inspirational poster, or wanted to go to a Celine Dion concert.

You probably get the idea.

I'm looking for like-minded people who are into the same things I'm into to hang out with, go to concerts with, see flims with, go to art openings with, etc...

The great thing about Japan that distinguishes it from it's Asian neighbors is the availability of these things and I'd like to take advantage of it.

I did live in Sapporo for three years, but that's been a while ago, and I know NO ONE in Tokyo.

Thanks!

-Eric

No worries. The way I see it, that's what these forums are for. Anyways, if you get around to doing any of that stuff, let me know how it works out. I was kind of gutted that I never got a chance to take that "tour" myself!

You don't know anything about me, and you're calling me an idiot. I bet you don't act like this when you speak to people unfamiliar to you on the street. You'd come home everyday with a burst mouth. It's interesting how social rules change and how bold people grow when they can hide in the anonymity of boards like these. Get out much Markle?

My, my, wound up a little tight there aren't we sunshine.

I'm married with a baby so, no, I don't get out much.

Ah ha! Married and child rearing in Japan, that's where the frustration comes from! And here I was thinking you were snide because you were an old virgin. Is she Japanese? If so, doubly whammy! She giving you much allowance these days? Have fun with that champion! (I thought I'd answer your patronizing "sunshine" insult with one of my own... wow this DOES feel good, now I see why you like it so much!)

Yes, I tend to get a little wound up when people who don't know me call me an idiot. But you're right, I shouldn't get so wound up when insults come from some lame, family-sad breeder whose only diversion from the grind is winding people up.

Blah, blah, bu-lah...
