I am looking at heading to Hanoi to teach at the end of the summer. I've got a degree, a TESOL certification, and a year experience in Korea. I am hoping I can get a job that pays at least $12 an hour?? Is this just wishful thinking??

I'm wondering how much money it is possible to save every month? Will I be able to live in Hanoi, pay student loans, and still be able to save some for future travel plans??

How many hours do most "full time" teachers work a month??

Thanks!

At $12 dollars an hour and say 25 hours a week you should be able to easily save at least $500 a month (it really is cheap to live here, nothing like Korea). Most teachers teach 20 to 30 hours a week. At the better schools you can earn $15+an hour if you've got a degree, certificate and some experience (and obviously you'll save more).

I've been working huge hours recently so have been saving, yes Surreycouple, between 1-2k a month if not more. My rent's only $160.

This is becasue I'm saving for my move to nha trang. previously, when working around 28 hours a week, I was saving about 1k a month, easily.

- rent
- food
- drinking

--> THINK before you spend and about where you spend it in these three areas and you will save a bucketload. Many, many people do not unfortunately.

When I got my current job I did a rough budget and estimated that I could easily save $1000 per month. I was circumspect, because I have seldom if ever stuck to a budget.

However, this month I bought a motorbike (Honda Wave RSX 110, $1000), and survived the month with no discomfort at all. So it seems that my budget is feasible.

I'm surprised, to be honest, as I saved this much per month while in Korea, where I had free accomodation.
