hello everybody..
i have got a bachelor's degree on english language teaching.
I've been working for a state school for two years.Besides this,i've a part-time job in a private language school and i am teaching to adults there.
my monthly salary is around 2100 usd(net) but i am planning to do some changes in my way of living. That's why i am looking for a new job but i don't want to have lower life standarts.I heard that esl teachers in scandinavia earn well above average.
has anybody got detailed information about the salaries in sweden, denmark or finland?
I guess it is not possible for foreigners to work for state schools there,is it?
thanks for your help.. |

Hi! I've been living and teaching in Finland for about 10 years now and I would have to disagree with your statement that teachers in Scandinavia earn well above average. 2100 usd (net) is about right... then add 20 (or more) percent tax and higher expenses and most teachers can just about make it, but they do not have extra for travel, etc.
It is also quite difficult to get a job here if you are a non-EU citizen as your education would need to be higher than the average EU citizen.
Just my thoughts for now. Let me know if you have any questions...

So low?! I'd make that in an average month in Riga and costs here for essentials aren't anywhere near what they are in Scandinavia and I also don't pay rent or mortgage as we own our own place. How on earth do teachers survive there on (I'm guessing) 1600 euro a month? Rent and utilities alone for a flat must swallow up at least a third of that?
Is there much work around in Tampere, privates, company classes etc? |
