Hello,
I've been told by a prospective employer that if I were to start teaching for the fall semester this year, I would have to be prepared to go to Oman in early September. I'll be coming from the U.S. This summer I plan to do some traveling and I'm wondering about the latest possible date I could return to the U.S. in order to prepare for my departure to Oman. In other words, if the fall semester begins in mid-September (Sept. 11, I think) and I need to be in Oman in early September, in your opinion, what would be the latest possible date I could get back home in order to do the medical testing and organize the documentation required for entry into Oman? (I would already have my transcripts and original diploma. I think I would just need to do the medical testing and get a police report.) What would be your guess? Thanks in advance. |

Dave,
The Eid hols will be over by second week of Sept. You need to be prepared for travel by the first week after completing attestation of documents, visa stamping etc. Be in the US at the end of August.
If you want to travel on 11th or adjacent dates, do it on a flight operated by an Arab airline .
Good wishes.

All of my medical testing was done in Oman after I arrived... and I didn't have to produce a police report for either of my jobs in Oman.
And having the original documents isn't the point. You will need to get these papers "certified" through the State Department and Omani Embassy in DC. If you are in DC, it can be done in about two days.

SQU does require a general medical checkup before you arrive: after they send you the official job offer notice by email, they will send you a form that your doctor has to fill out and that you must send back to SQU (along with the completed official application form, preliminary contract, and whatever other initial documents there are). You, the job candidate, must pay for that first medical exam. Then, if all goes well and you are flown to Oman, SQU will send you over to their campus clinic for a blood test for AIDS and a mini-exam by a doctor. Only after those results also come back okay are you given your final official contract to sign. |
