year I should have my MA in linguistics...

What are my chances of getting some sort of teaching position at a Uni in Europe with the MA and a CELTA? A position where I am not just living from check to check; a real job?

Chances quite reasonable, I would think.

You could try here in the Netherlands (if I recall, you've got strong German, so Dutch should come easily for you and that would be an advantage in the job market).

I can't specifically hook you up with any particular uni (my own base uni is currently overstaffed with language teachers, sadly), but the economy's not crashing and there are jobs. I'm relatively sure that Hungarian citizens are legally able to work freely here.

I'd try to go for university positions, though...the secondary school scene here is said to be stressful and relatively poorly paid.

I think the only difficulty you'll have overall (not just Netherlands) is that positions are simply scarce. You'll need to persevere a bit, I think. If I were you, I'd focus on countries where you have language skills - this gives you some advantage over others. And you'll need to find ways to make contacts....

luck! You've gone the steps that few really make - got the citizenship, got the quals, got the experience. You'll get the job. Very Happy

You might want to compare salaries in Hungary vs. Germany, Nederlands, etc. I could be at a uni in the Czech Rep (and would prefer to be there for many reasons!) but salaries just aren't really up to normal living standard for educators in general there....I expect it's the same in Hungary, but I'd be interested to know if you find out differently.

The kicker is whether you can save up enough to buy significant stuff, like a flat. I think the basic living would be ok.

You will always have a better earning capacity in Korea or Japan than anywhere in Europe. You don't work in Europe for the money.

I have a linguistic and intellectual interest in Hungary; besides I am a citizen now.
