has anyone ever climbed mount tsukuba, ibaraki-ken?

i'm wondering how gruelling it is and if you can get up and down in a day.

i love hiking but i have a bit of a trick knee and can't stand more than a few hours. anyone been there?

I have climbed it -- not grueling and easily done in a few hours (lots of old people and some ladies in heels) However, you'd best go on a weekday or else it's very very crowded. At the top is a large flat picnic area with shops.

I make it up there a few times a year. When you say you want to climb Tsukuba san, you mean from the shrine to either of the peaks? It takes a while from the Tsukuba Shrine area, and there is always the cable car to carry your tired bones down.
