Harry Houdini, you wrote in a reply to Cliviger in a Nov. 10 post that the EDB gave away freebies last year - You mention tax back as an example... As I have not been following this Forum close enough, I missed any postings on that matter... Can you, please, [or any other reader] tell me what some of these frrebies were? Are you saying that NET teachers for the school year 2006 had their income tax returned?Thanks... |

The EDB is not empowered to give anything away! However the government of Hong Kong did give a tax rebate to everyone who pays tax of up to $25000.
If you work in Hong Kong as a NET for two years you get a gratuity of 15% of your salary, and as that is the current rate of income tax and there is no GST in Hong Kong, your salary is virtually tax free anyway so the $25000 was a bit of a bonus you could say! |

Thanks Anninhk... Can you please tell me for what tax year that was for?2006 or 2007?
By 25000$ you mean that was the figure for the maximum amount of tax rebate the HK Government gave to anyone? Thank you. |

Yes, $25000 was the maximum.
It was for 2007/08.
We got $15000 for 2006/07 |
