If you're qualified than becoming an oral examiner is a good way to boost your CV and earn some extra cash. I'd been trying for four years here in Peru only to hear every year that they had enough examiners, even though it wasn't true. It pays to have connections, turns out my ex-bosses, ex colleague is one of the local secretaries and they gave me a chance to become an examiner. So if you want to be an examiner, be persistent and keep in touch with your employers, never know who could help you out.
Not only do they pay for the training, which was about 25 usd for each, but they gave a small stipend, only about 10 usd. It took 2.5 hours for each I've done the PET and FCE one. Basically they play videos, you get to practise and there's a test at the end. If you pass, then you're an oral examiner and you get a Cambridge ID.
There are usually exams twice a year and here they pay about 5 usd per person for PET and 7 usd per person for FCE. Doesn't sound like much, but when you consider you test 8 people an hour, it comes out to between 40 and 56 dollars, compare that to the 5 dollars an hour institutes pay.
Like I said, it's only twice a year, so it's not like you could quit your day job, but it looks great on your CV and the money will come in handy for Christmas. |
