I'll be arriving in the Kingdom soon having spent the last nine years in the UAE where there was a good art/artist community. I had reasonable success selling watercolours to expats and organising an exhibition twice a year for my work and other artists. Does anyone know of art groups, shops, or the general arty scene in and around Damman.

Well, I think there are art groups in the magic kingdom, mainly in Riyadh and Jeddah, ranging from Islamic art to Egyptian and other types of arts.
If you do an internet search, I think you might find some around Dammam. But, be careful, the magic kingdom is not UAE regarding art work, not any art work is allowed, especially the ones showing half-naked females or anything which may be interpreted as an offence (irresponsible art!), so check with the Brigade of Uncle Bandar before you start your paintings!!

BTW, there is an ancient Graffiti Rock art in the southwest of Riyadh, if you are interested you might go and visit the gallery.

I realise that I'll need to be careful when painting in Saudi and will take my cue from what is on show in the Artirama Al-Salah Art Gallery, Damman. Mind you, even in the UAE my work seldom sold in galleries, I'm not much one for paying a percentage to a middle man if I can sell direct to colleagues, via my website and hold my own exhibitions.

Nudes! Ha! I would shake too much. The only babes I paint wear nappies and the only books I�ll risk bringing into the kingdom are on abstract and colour theory.

It would just be nice to know if there were similar minded folk painting in the area I�m heading to. Thanks again

There is an art scene in Khobar - and art galleries selling the work of local and expatriate artists.
