|
|
Hi all,
I'll be heading to Mexico from New Zealand about April or May 2009. I'm wanting to do a ~4 week TESL course in Mexico, somewhere in Guadalajara, Jalisco, or nearby. Can anyone recommend a good course that doesn't cost too much, has good teachers and lessons, and will give a qualification that Mexico employers will recognise?
Conversely, are there any TESL courses on offer that I should avoid?
Any help appreciated.

I didn't worry about it before, but I recommend a course that has SEP recognition (Sec. of Public Ed.).
It's becoming more of a requirement than an option.
PM me for a good school that offers a TEFL distance course. It's here in Mexico City. It's SEP recognized and only $500USD. |

I moved to Mexico City in July, 2007, already registered for a TEFL certificate course through Teachers International. I think it cost about $1400. It lasted two weeks and included a place to stay, and job placement assistance. Through my TEFL teacher, I got a job that pays the bills and I've been rehired for a second year.
I guess you would call that a recommendation.

I took a TEFL with Teachers International (http://www.innovative-english.com/) about 3 and a half years ago, and I'm still here. It met all my requirements - didn't cost too much, was in the right country and was recognised in Mexico. They work out of Mexico City, but it's a good place to start and you can always move on elsewhere. You never know, you might decide to stay - Mexico City is a great place to live, providing you like big cities.
By recognised I mean something a little different....I have never actually been asked by any student to see my TEFL certificate! But I teach Business English, and not in a school. Who'll recognise it anyway. The important thing for me is that it was accepted by Immigration when I went to get my work visa. |
