I am planning to look for ESL teaching jobs in the UAE, but I won't be available until about March next year. What are my chances of getting a job--at any kind of institution or school--beginning at that time? I have seen some ads stating the jobs began in January or August. (I have experience and certification.)
I would appreciate any insight into this question. Thanks! |

Depending on your credentials (and the UAE is obsessed with academic credentials) schools and universities hire the vast majority of their teachers to start in August for the beginning of the academic year. Some tertiary institutions will hire a few teachers to start in January for the second semester.
Minimum credentials are BA+CELTA (or other serious ESL/EFL certification)+ experience. The best international schools are also looking for a teaching cert from your home country. The best university jobs require an MA+a few years of experience teaching academic English.
I'd say that the prospects are not great between March and August, and would likely be schools that are hiring to replace staff that disappeared one night... probably for good reason. They tend to hire local for this situation as you would arrive just about the time everyone leaves for the summer. The Gulf gets decidedly empty as everyone who can gets away from the 45+ temps and the 100% humidity.
