Hi All,
It's been a while since i posted on the Mex page having left in 2006 but im thinking of returning. I am interested in working at UMAR in Hux or Puerto having already worked at another university in the Oaxaca system. I have the experience (6years) and the qualifications (BA, CELTA and 1/2 way throught my MA) but cant find any links to either of these Universities job postings. I wouldnt be able to be back in Mex until march April time but i was wondering if anyone works at either or them or could point me in the right direction. Thanks |

Working at one of the Oaxaca universities myself, we have finished our hiring and most probably UMAR have too. Check for job ads after new year for Febraury/March starts, they normally have a couple of openings. |

I work at umar huatulco right now, and I'm planning to leave in either Feb or April (depending on if I go at end of semester or contract). I am not alone in this, so there will be at least 2 openings.
Why? Disregard what was told to you previously about pay. After deductions and such, you will be paid 5000p every two weeks (more if you have a masters). This is not bad, but you have to bear in mind that prices in Huatulco are equatable to the US. This is not cheap Mexico. If you have no debts, no desire to save, and want to live in a really pretty city this is the place to go. |

hmmm, probably not the right place to get into it, but someone once asked me why the pay at UTM was lower than at other unis in the system--it's not, but we advertise the take home pay for this very reason. People looking for jobs want to know how much money is going into their hands. Now, the demonicat will be getting some of those withholding back as some are "enforced savings" but Mexican taxes are on the high side. As to wether or not the cost of living in Huatulco is

is another issue any teachers wishing to live there should look into. I imagine it has something to do with lifestyle. |

I never had a problem living on my salary in Huatulco. My take-home after deductions was about 4800 pesos every two weeks. My monthly expenses for rent, food, transportation, entertainment, etc. were about 6500 pesos monthly, allowing me to save maybe 3000 pesos a month. Now, $300 a month may not be that much north of the border, but even in 'expensive' Huatulco that's a decent amount of money. |
