I Posted this yesterday but it didn't show up. I don't think it is OT or inappropriate though.

I'm looking for a native speaker in Trojmiasto for private lessons with a 7yr old Polish boy who's been living in Belfast for the last couple of years. He wants to maintain and improve his level of English, rather than start.

Does anyone know a good place in the city to advertise for a native speaker>

Or, even better, if anyone is interested, please PM me.

There are lots of adverts on gumtree.pl. Unfortunately the quality of the teachers there tends to be rather low.

Thanks Harry. I had a look around on gumtree, but, as you mentioned, the quality doesn't look very promising.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, guys! Smile

I'm in trojmiasto, admitedly, I'm not very good, only scored a 'B' in the CELTA and working in a local private school where the student choose their lessons, I get the same students repeatedly booking with me; maybe the love a bad teacher? Smile

Also, my main competitor on gumtree is another teacher boasting 15 years experience. oh, there is also the guy offering skype lessons which I don't really believe would be as effective as a face to face lesson.

Anyway, please read this posting as light hearted, no offence taken or intended.

As for the requirements on the 7 year old boy, I'd love to help but I have zero experience teaching English to younger learners though I'd love to take the YLE sometime. But, if he wants occassional chats with a native I'm sure I could help out in some way.

regards

I don't know about the tri-city but there are lots of adverts for here in Warsaw and the average quality of the teachers is low. There's one guy who claims to be a native speaker but charges 30zl for 60 minutes, any school would pay him at least 45 for 45 minutes. That he accepts half that much tells you that he can't get a job at any school!

I know what you mean. I'm paid a half decent rate by the school but on this awful 'contact for a specific purpose'. Then private students as my rate and are usually scared off or ask me to drop to 40zl/hour. Why would I want to charge less for private lessons than I get in my school? They also think they only pay for the hour, whereas they pay for the time it takes me to prepare a lesson plan to ensure they get the best. So in effect, this might be as little as 20zl/hour! Seriously, Poland is a difficult place to make a living.
