Have looked online for the government department whom would issue me an ARC card, but I don't seem to be having much luck so far. Does anyone know the website address or e-mail address for the government authority or the consular service who would issue me an ARC card?
I surfed for two hours and have just about given up! Help!
Thank you,

No. Could not see a link to the webpage which should describe the documents needed in application to teach in Taiwan? For example, I need the web link that connects to the webpage which instructs me on the detail of approved BA status and supporting documentation as I've completed all OU courses and need to know if they recognise the Open University 1, and 2, if an online distance learning Degree is recognised under Taiwanese law(?), in order to issue me an ARC card, I presume, not having applied before, a first time applicant. Any clues appreciated.
Thank you,

I wish to contact the correct department in haste to save me the unforeseen hassle and cost of time - do not wish to be told that my Degree is not recognised and then being informed that I wasted my time in application whilst I arrived on a would be 60-day visitor visa. Of course, this is my first time application where I am sure someone out there knows that not everything is black and white and further clarification for someone so slow, sure would suffice. Thank you for all input.
Kind regards,

t-asia,
It's the work permit, not the ARC you'll need a copy of your degree for.
This department handles the work permit:
Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training,
Council of Labor Affairs, Executive Yuan
Address : No.83, Sec. 2, Yanping N. Rd., Datung Chiu, Taipei, Taiwan 10346, R.O.C.
TEL : 886-2-85902567 |

Apologies in asking the wrong question. Of course, in Thailand it is the work permit and teaching license, besides other red-tape documents. But thank you for providing the relevant department, however, the three words which define the degree status offer no neccesitive breakdown, which leaves me perplexed, the plausibility that there should be someone whom can break it down briefly for t-asia?
I recall someone or other on this site being fothcoming with the specifics, so it is sending the BOEAVT a brief mail, but someone should know, I sense, the approval of the Open University being recognised in Taiwan and what of ''less than'' three years study (credit transfer), including the fact that my studies were online distance learning studies. Whom agrees or disagrees, input would be most welcome given the cost of wasting time- best to ask questions where there is the need to understand an immediate concern?

It is my understanding that Taiwan does not recognize online degrees. That was the case when I left the country a couple of years ago, anyway.
Does anyone know if this has changed?
Regardless, if you have an HND and TEFL cert (the one you mentioned in another thread should be fine I would think...it doesn't need to be a CELTA or Trinity), then you should be able to get an ARC.
I wish I could help you on specifics of where to find this info...it was all stuff that I was aware of when living in Taiwan because of friends' experiences with the ARC process. I knew a couple of South Africans who were having trouble getting an ARC because their Bachelors were, for some reason, seen as less than a Bachelors because they were obtained in three years (this has never happened to British friends I knew with 3-year Bachelors degrees, by the way, only a couple of folks from S. Africa). They were told to reapply once they had gone out and gotten a TEFL cert. This was drawn on and on until both eventually left the country.
Unfortunately, with countries like Taiwan, it is extremely difficult to get absolute information. Things change frequently and officials oftentimes don't follow the rules anyway. It's whimsical and the luck of the draw (especially if you live in smaller Taiwanese cities). Whether or not your credentials are acceptable may not be clear to you until you actually go through the process. That's the unfortunate thing.
How about calling the TECO Office in the country you are currently living in? Maybe they can give you more definite information. |

Between 773's recent replies to T-asia's original queries, that of 773's assertions: an online distance learning course is not recognised, then to profer with a less than valid guesstimation of, ''as I am aware'', leaves me further fuddled 773. I would love someone to step in and conclude, clear the confusion. Once again, I assume that numerous teachers now teach in Taiwan. Please settle this for T-asia.
Kind regards,

Has anyone ever had to actually hand in a physical copy of your diploma and/or transcripts in order to get an ARC card or work permit? |

I (and every other foreign teacher at my school) had to provide the original diploma and transcripts. The school made certified copies and used these to apply for the work permit. I imagine it's a similar situation for most schools here. |
