Does any know of any upcoming dates and locations for the teachers certification course? I teach in Nakhon Si Thammarat province so anything in the south would be most convenient. Thanks. |

I am still very confused about this and nobody seems to be able to give any clear answers. I have since learned that there are two courses foreign teachers at government schools must take in order to be "certified". First there is the Thai culture course that according to my boss and coworkers is the only necessary requirement for "certification". It is a three day course and costs between 4000 and 6000 baht. Now I am hearing from other foreign teachers that there is a BA-like teaching certification course that takes two years to complete and costs an arm and a leg. Some schools seem to be enforcing the Thai culture course more than others. I had to get a two year waiver on my work permit to take this course. I am still dragging my feet about taking the Thai culture course, but plan to do it, eventually. |

That's right, gusto.
But you can take a series of tests they're calling the "TCT Tests" for about 6000 baht. These tests all all but impossible to pass but, in conjunction with passing the Thai Culture Course, will get you a teaching liscense in Thailand.
I took the "TCT Tests" last April and failed all but the first section. The consensus is that you pretty much have to have a BA in education to have a fighting chance on these tests.
Check out ajarn.com for more information. There's a guy on the forum there called Stamp who knows a lot about these new crazy requirements. |
