... what (roughly) should I expect to earn for my first teaching job in the Czech republic?
I've applied to the Caledonian school of which I've heard mixed opinions, but I have very little experience so my options seem limited. Should I be looking to take, pretty much, whatever I can get (within reason).
It's very difficult to get work without some solid teaching experience (at least it seems that way here in the UK).
Can anyone offer me some general advice regarding teaching in the Czech republic?
I am, of course, not hoping to make much money. I just want to gain some experience teaching and, well, have a good time if possible. |

Having a good time will pretty much depend on whether or not you can support yourself.
The Celta is pretty good, but it won't really prepare your for the actual market in Prague. Most of your classes will probably be around 1-5 students at caledonian and you'll be doing a lot of travel most likely.
This is what I tell my graduates. Don't accept any offer under 220 CZK per 45min. You need to look at whether or not you will be able to support yourself. Talk to Caledonian directly and ask them how much you'll approximately at the end of the month.
You're a Brit, so you have more options than say an American. Caledonian is OK, but you could probably find a school that pays more. |

Good to see you're coming here with an open mind.
I'd suggest making some friends with people who are already here, if you didn't do your Celta in Prague. You will need a good support base, even if it's just to have a quiet beer with someone who speaks normal English.
As a Brit, you will find it easier to adjust, IMO, than those of us who have had to pack up our entire lives to teach in the CR. At least there are cheap airfares if you decide to go back home, LOL!!
I'm sure you'll have a great time. |

Have you checked out Bell Centres ? They say if you work for them you will earn enough to live on comfortably. I do not know if this is true but you could check them out. www.bell-centres.co.uk. |
